What is onboarding and what does it consist of?

The onboarding process is primarily about adaptation, i.e. introducing the new person to the company, introducing him to his co-workers, presenting detailed responsibilities and how to perform them. It is important, as part of this process, to provide the newly hired person with a guide who will introduce him to the team. Most often, this person is the direct supervisor, who delegates responsibilities and helps acclimate to the new place.

In large organizations, the HR department is also responsible for this. Of course, it is best when more people participate in onboarding employees, it is an additional variety and an opportunity to get to know other colleagues.

Onboarding process - step by step

It is also important to outline some very important basic actions that should be performed by the employer in the initial onboarding process. The first is to prepare the personnel documentation that the employee will sign. Next, arranging the workplace and the necessary business tools. The workspace and business tools may vary depending on the position taken. A different starter package will be given to employees working in sales teams, and a completely different one to someone performing a task as a mystery shopper or inventory worker. After these tasks, you can smoothly move on to familiarizing the employee with procedures, company values, and giving him or her detailed information on duties and tasks. The employee is given the necessary knowledge for the job, step-by-step guidance and explanation of the company' s work organization. He learns what rules prevail in the place and the so-called good practices. It is also explained what the hierarchical structure in the organization is, what the various departments deal with and what the scope of cooperation will be. The onboarding process can be conducted individually or for a larger group of people.
